The 20 “No Human Debt” Start-Ups

April 12, 2022

As you read yesterday, we’re announcing the 20 No HumanDebt™ Start-Ups Program where we’ll select twenty start-ups to support in their human work journey so we know they started out right and they won’t start amassing Human Debt before they even took flight.

Please click here to find the short form that will allow you to register to be considered as one of the program’s startups or simply email us at contact@peoplenottech.com

We heard from some of our incumbent clients yesterday after the announcement and they were all sharing the same thought – how badly they wish they were the founders and leaders that could apply for this and start on the right foot. How much easier things would have been for their enterprise if it had come along now when the focus on the people work is so clear as compared to what it used to be a short while ago and especially as compared to what it is like in a large enterprise that started off based on antiquated structures of the 80s.

In turn, the startups wish they had the unlimited resources these giants have and presume things would be so much easier if they did.

In this video, I reiterate why we think it is super important that we put our time and money where our mouths are to help.

It is also worth saying that every founder I ever spoke to -and there were hundreds over the years that I’ve either advised, invested in or mentored- has always known, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that culture will be what makes them sink or swim and they all had the absolute right intentions in terms of setting up a shop that is unflinchingly “people-first” but where they failed, was as ever, execution. This is where we come in to help.

Running a growing start-up and then a scale-up is unimaginably time and energy-sapping and the best of intentions can fall by the wayside. This is why founders need co-founders and founding members of their teams and amongst these people, if they are lucky, there will be Human Work Superheroes and they will know how intensely important it is to spend time on the people work as a foundational process.

One of the questions on the form asks about whether or not the respondent would like to be featured on these newsletters and our digital channels to showcase how far they went once they were accepted into the program -how much more psychologically safe and healthy their teams are and how they managed to form a habit of doing the human work as a result of having the permission, the focus and the tool they needed.

To our mind, that ought to be a superfluous question and unless said start-up is in a firm stealth mode they ought to be so proud they shouted from the rooftops and delighted their investors and their clients alike with their staunch focus on making the team and human work the cornerstone of their success and if they don’t anticipate that to be the case then that’s telling in itself.

If you’re a start-up leader reading this who will apply – we can’t wait to help you do the right thing not only by your people but by your company too by looking to have them kitted with what they truly need to perform and win and we’re excited to be part of your journey as the next big thing who knew to put their people first.
